Shapes of things before my eyes

As most of you know, I work in the golf industry. We get lots of guests this time of year because the Tour is coming to town, and this morning in the parking lot, I saw something I've never seen before.

I have seen plenty of vanity plates before, but they all had combinations of letters and numbers to make something clever. I have never seen one with shapes before. Apparently California will let you do that. One car in the lot, with California plates, had an 'S', then the shape of a hand, and then 'BAGR'. I didn't know you were allowed to do that, but I guess I was wrong (yet again). A hand on a license plate...it just looked...strange.
