so this is Christmas

It just doesn't feel like Christmas this year in the Lumberyard. I have lots of reasons why that could be. Maybe it's one of them or a combination of some or all of them. It's not normal for me either. I can usually dive face first into the Christmas spirit, but this year, it just ain't happenin'.

Let's start with the wife, who's in ther middle of some nasty class in online college. It's taking up most of her evenings and weekends, making Christmas shopping difficult and Christmas decorating impossible. For the first (and hopefully last) time ever, we're blowing off the tree. We're not pulling out any of the decorations. We bought a small fiber optic tree, just to make it a little Christmas-y, but most of the stuff is staying packed away. Don't really have time to pull it all out, or time afterewards to put it all away. The wife gets a one week break from school, and I'm just not going to do it all on my own. Thank God the whole school thing will end in May. Yes, there will be a graduation party then, but that's May. This is Christmas.

The youngster is still struggling his way through exams. That will get better after this week, but he's not exactly in a Christmas mood, and the results of exam week probably won't help get him there.

I'm working on some stuff at work that I'm not very familiar with, and it's very frustrating and it all has to be done before Christmas, so it's making for exhausting days.

Then there's the general gloomy mood out there, with the economy being what it is, and fear and pessimism just dripping off everything. Companies are in trouble and jobs are disappearing, and Ho Ho Ho just doesn't seem to fit the mood.

In the south, without snow, you don't get the whole Christmas experience as it is. This year it just seems like it's less so.

how sad! Want me to send you some egg nog? Grandma Flossie's recipe. It's GOOD.

I guess in the grand scheme of things, decorations, trees, gifts, the whole 9 yards, don't really matter. What truly matters is what we're thankful for at the end of the day, and being with the ones we love.

Merry Christmas Lumberyard. You're a damn good web friend.
Love,
Lynsey
