the red sox, yankees and mets

Well, the Red Sox have it all laid out in front of them. All they have to do is win at home and the Yankees go away. That's all. Just win at home. I guess if you can't do that, you can stay home in October knowing that the couch is the best place for you, and the bought team goes to the playoffs (OK, the more bought team). If you can win, you go into October knowing you are where you belong as well, but it involves more grass, dirt, leather, and the thrill of the playoffs.

The Mets start their season on Tuesday...the little league Mets, that is. Let's play ball.

for the record, John: (re: //the more bought team//)

people are always saying that we ought not complain about the yankees ginormous payroll, since we have the second highest. Granted, our payroll is approx. twice the league average. Well we have to compete directly with the yankees to get to the playoffs, which is more than most teams have to do. And still, with our payroll, we could sign another whole team, maybe even TWO of the smallest payrolls, to get to the skanks payroll. That's right, the yanks payroll is THREE times the league average, that's 50% more than the second highest payroll. Just for the record.

I'll grant you that. You still have every right to complain, because George does what he does and it's not fair to you, or anyone else, and it's why I'm more an 'anyone but the Yankees' fan than a fan of any team. Having the Yankees in the playoffs automatically gives me someone to pull for. I just don't know who it is yet.

Now think of this, though. As unfair as it is to you, think about one of those two smallest payroll teams you could absorb and still not hit the Yankees' number. The Royals of the world don't stand a chance. They're like...another farm team for the Yankees. If someone there turns into an all star that they need, just hire them away. That's the thing that bothers me most about the big leagues. The Yankees are just, (you are correct) by far, the biggest offenders.

I guess the gross example is the Rangers when A-Rod was there. The team sucked because they were busy paying for A-Rod and couldn't afford anyone else.

Now he's a Yankee and the team doesn't suck, because he's just another millionaire on the roster. Something about that is just wrong.
